Description
this marionette is an authentic Burmese rare piece. Its unique facial paint, construction technique, and apparent age suggest it is an original from a traditional Burmese puppet troupe. It is 60 cm large or 24 inches. All control cables are present, strong and free of tangles. The fact that the marionette is made from dark local wood and then painted with nearly black paint suggests that it could be from an earlier period or made for a particular theatrical purpose. The traditional use of small nails to affix clothing is consistent with older marionettes, as newer models typically use glue or stitching. The wear and tear on the clothes and paint indicate significant age, possibly dating back to the early 20th century or even late 19th century.
